The world's largest chrismtas tree structure was inaugurated during a musical and pyrotechnic attended the mascots of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to be hosted by Rio in 2016. it was inaugurated with a firework display during an event that featured lights and musical performances, Several thousand people attended the show on the lagoon Rodrigo Freitas, in southern Rio.
The tree, covered with several hundred meters of fairy lights and decorated with 3.1 million light bulbs, will remain in place until January 6.
The organizers of the event hoping to attract 80,000 visitors a day.
The tree has been certified as the largest of its kind in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records.
